Indy Racing League Buys Huge Stake in Xtreme Drift Circuit [CONFIRMED]

Been to the bottom of the XDC website today? We sure have and they added the Brickyard Trademarks Inc. footer to the bottom of the website. Why is this significant? They are the owners of Indy Racing League (IRL) and we have heard rumors all month of a buyout/merger happening. Formula Drift is no longer doing demo’s with IRL they have been dieing to gain a bigger fan base since their series of open wheel has been lack luster for years. The Danica Patrick fury has moved into NASCAR they have been feeling a hurt and need some at event entertainment.

It appears that the rumors we have been abuzz about all month are true which is just crazy! That sure makes the Long Beach Grand Prix weekend a tad strange since Formula Drift is hosting Team Drift. We will try tomorrow to provide you more information on this series but this can only bring huge things to drifting in 2010!

For Sale: One Pagani C9, Mildly Scuffed Up

Photo copyright KGP Photography

The scene: The A14 Autobahn near Stuttgart, at about 10 a.m. this morning. Details are scarce, but a Pagani C9 test mule, powered by a twin-turbo AMG-built 6.0-liter V-12 with 700 bhp, wads it up big time near the Mercedes-Benz factory, scattering shards of carbon fiber everywhere. Thankfully, the factory test driver didn’t suffer any life-threatening injuries, but his ego must have taken a big blow. This is, after all, a $1.3 million supercar with an ultra-exotic carbon-titanium chassis, and that kind of damage won’t just buff out! (Read More)

Steve Millen Versus Keanu Reeves

Steve Millen in the Scion tC.

Good friend of Road & Track, race-car driver Steve Millen, will compete in this year’s Toyota Pro/Celebrity race on Saturday, April 17, the same weekend as the Toyota Grand Prix of Long Beach IndyCar race. Millen, who is the founder, president and CEO of aftermarket performance specialist Stillen, will be competing in the event for the first time since 1986.

The Toyota Pro/Celebrity race, which serves as a charity for several children’s hospitals in the Los Angeles area, pits celebrities against pros, all driving race-prepared Scion tC coupes. The celebrities are given a 30-second head start, after which the pros—which this year include Millen, Formula Drift champion Tanner Foust, former CART champ Jimmy Vasser and actor Keanu Reeves (the returning champion of the celebrity category)—attempt to catch them, pass them and fight for the overall win…all within 10 laps around the 1.97-mile Long Beach street circuit.

So how is Millen dealing with switching from his usual rides—including a fire-breathing Ford GT or, more recently in the Targa Newfoundland, a 620-bhp Stillen-prepped all-wheel-drive Nissan GT-R—to the 161-bhp front-wheel-drive Scion tC? After practicing for two days with fellow celebrity/pro drivers around the Streets of Willow, Millen said, “It’s a different mindset for me, really. All through my IMSA days I liked to brake as late and as deep as possible into corners. But with these cars, there’s a lot more understeer, so I can’t charge in*as aggressively.”

“But I’m having a lot of fun with the celebrities,” Millen continued. “They really are a neat bunch of people, all very successful at different walks of life. I’ve been giving them a few driving tips, too, so maybe when I try to pass them they’ll let me by,” he joked. “But I do think Foust, Vasser and I are going to have a real good battle!”

BMW M looking to be more youthful, get more affordable?

BMW Concept 1 Series Tii - Click above for high-res image gallery

There was a time, not too long ago, when a BMW M-badged vehicle was feared. In the late 1990s, the E36 M3 Coupe was often regarded as the best-handling two-door on the planet and its sibling, the E36 M3 Sedan, was the fastest four-door in showrooms. The droptop M Roadster offered a viable alternative to a Porsche 911 Cabriolet, while the bad-to-the bone E39 M5 ran without peers thanks to its 400-horsepower V8 .

Today's M models offer excellent performance, but the bar has been raised so high that cheaper upstarts like Mitsubishi and Subaru can give them a run for the money on tracks, not to mention surging premium competitors like Audi and arch rival, Mercedes-Benz and their AMG offerings. Kay Segler, the new chief of BMW's performance-oriented M brand, has taken notice. However, instead of pushing the well-respected division to the head of the pack with even greater levels of performance, Segler says it is time to rethink what his division stands for - meaning BMW M may no longer offer the fastest or most powerful cars possible.

"The measurement of 0 to 100 (km/h) isn't as much a thrill anymore," Segler tells TheDetroitBureau.com. He goes on to explain that it's how a car feels via the driver's "butt-o-meter" matters more. Furthermore, he says the performance M brand needs to shift directions. "We want to make M young again." Segler's goal "is to go towards affordability and freshness." Those are big changes considering the current M lineup represents the flagship of each model range - priced accordingly - along with gigantic SUVs like the 5,368-pound X5 M. Undeterred by the news, we are still holding our breath for a production version of the Concept 1 Series Tii.

NY Auto Show: Audi R8 Spyder is the new hotness

What car haven’t the Germans cut the roof off yet? The Audi 100? The BMW Isetta? The Trabi? No, no, and nope. When it comes to taking a Sawzall to basically anything, they have us beat out of sheer ingenuity, stubbornness and .

There’s really nothing more to say here — we’ll let the pictures do the talking.

The R8 Spyder has its crosstown rival, the Porsche 911 Turbo Cabriolet, within its LED-illuminated gunsights. Which would you choose?

Dean Kearney?s S14 with his V-LED Wrap

Dean Kearney

This is quite an interesting look to Dean’s S14. He is somehow marked as a rookie so I guess it will be interesting to see how he holds up for Rookie of the Year. I really love the dark battleship color they have going with the car. Nice job to the guys at Intec Racing for getting this project together so quick.

Abigail Baker Vs. 0-60 Magazine Editor in a Drift Off with a 2010 RTR Mustang

As some of you know Abigail Baker is the girlfriend of Formula Drift driver Vaughn Gittin. A wager was set over at 0-60 Magazine that one of the editors couldn’t drift as well as Abigail Baker. Of course, our girl didn’t let us down and laid the smack down on some editor nerds who were out of place! The story is hysterical and written well along with a video that is 100x more entertaining. Nice job smashing on the RTR Mustang Abigail!
